MAYIM MAYIM
Miniatures of Remembrance
Danced for the 33 children of the Jewish Orphanage in Fürth
On March 22, 1942 the director of the orphanage, Dr. Isaak Hallemann, his wife Klara, his daughters Eva and Beate-Esther and the 33 orphans were deported to Izbica and from there to the concentration camp Belzec. They never returned. Dr. Hallemann could have emigrated but he refused to leave the children who were entrusted to his care.
From their fate the idea of a dance project, an homage to the children, was born - a celebration of life and a celebration of encounter beyond all borders, languages, countries and religions. 33 choreographers from all over the world are invited to symbolically adopt one of the orphans. On their behalf, 33 dancers will come to Fürth, bringing along a dance solo in their suitcase, and dance for the murdered children in November.
Jutta Czurda's idea has made an impact: Choreographers, dancers and musicians from Israel, Senegal, Indien, China, Portugal, Belgium, Finland, Australia and America - virtually from all over the world - have embraced the project and confirmed their participation.
The dancers and musicians will arrive in Fürth on November 17 to practice together, to rehearse the dance evening "Mayim Mayim” that will premiere at the Stadttheater Fürth on November 29th and, as important, to overcome unfamiliarity through encounter.
Just like the orphans shall find a symbolic home on stage, the dancers and musicians shall find a home during their stay in Fürth. Families from Fürth will therefore open their doors and homes to welcome the young artists with them and to set a good example of hospitality.
Financial sponsorships will also help raising the enormous costs, resulting from such a large number of artists and far travels. However, it is very encouraging that generous sponsors have already assured their support.
This project depends on many shoulders to carry it, both artistically and financially, and to support its idea in general. If you want to support us, please contact us at mayim.stadttheaterfuerth@hotmail.de
Most particularly, we would like to ask you to spread the idea of the project and to help it find a place in people's hearts and consciousness.
